I purchased additional ammo for my 6.8 Western. I was able to obtain the same ammo my rifle was calibrated with and at a respectable price.

Patterns well in my X-bolt. I haven't used the load on actual animals, but greatly looking forward to it.

I made the first shot at 500 yds on a 10 pt Buck with the 162g Copper Impact, at an estimated energy about 1600 ft lbs,…the bullet struck the Buck in the upper Lung area. Buck moved to bed near brushy cypress thicket and after stalking 2nd shot at about 85yds dropped the Buck. I would give 5 Stars for any use of this 6.8 Western Cartridge and at ranges of 300 yds or less. I determined the first copper bullet did not mushroom more than 9-10 mm, due to reduced speed and energy at 500 yds, therefore 4 Stars.
Best Used for:
- Deer less than 300 Yards!

My first shot on a 9 Pt Buck during Deer Season November 2022 in KY was at 500 yds with the Winchester 162 grain Copper Impact, in a 20 mph crosswind at approximately 30 degrees….my son was spotting and I held up 30”, top of skull with vertical crosshair on front legs…12x on Leupold scope,…..the bullet struck and the Buck bowed up in middle and came off the ground about 2’ vertically, according to my son, he and doe then moved about 30 yds into cypress thicket. We waited for about 30 minutes then moved in on the thicket, online, across an open field, with wind in our face, and about 50 yards apart, each side of underbrush, to within 100 yards of where we last saw the Buck, and waited 5-10 minutes, we heard the Buck coughing 3-4 times, with my Son to my right , he then started a low whistle and Doe followed by the Buck moved out of brush, with Leupold on 3x I placed crosshair for Lung shot at 80 yards and Buck went down. Based on my experiences, I think the solid copper bullet at 500 yds due to velocity of 2108, partially mushroomed in a top of lung hit. ….bottom line, We got the Buck… and the Ammunition performed!…..Only problem I have with Winchester 6.8 Western Ammunition, is the outrageous price and availability. If they don’t boost the production soon, in 2023!…no one is going to buy their or the Browning Rifles. I hope Optics Planet and Winchester read and understand my Recommendations!….. ASAP!! …..
Pros:
- The Terminal Performance was good at 500 yards and
- The Terminal Performance was excellent and the accuracy outstanding!
Cons:
- The Price for the Ammunition is too expensive and the Supply needs to be doubled
- Price is too Expensive due to no availability, which will hurt Gun Sales in the next
- The Price for the 6.8 Western is too Expensive and will quickly reduce Rifle Sales in this Excellent Caliber
Best Used for:
- The 6.8 Western , 162g Copper Impact is an excellent round for Whitetsil and Mule Deer, but for Elk and larger game I would go for a 175 g bullet.

Performs exactly as outlined on the box. Used for mainly target practice at this point, but will use for hunting all big game. I would highly recommend this ammo to anyone. Great ammo and great price.
